Blogging and its effects on different writing styles

Consistently for the last four or five years, I had unknowingly been exposed to weblogs.  It’s funny how I saw them virtually every day yet never even dedicated a second of my life to something so widespread throughout the great internet. Blogs are on corporate websites, personal sites, club sites, bowling sites, hunting sites, one armed basketball fan sites, well you get the point. They are on a lot of sites! Throughout the last few weeks though, my eyes have been opened to the magical world of blogging. The class has proven to be very enlightening to me to assist in a better understanding of this unique new concept. The class has also proven to be very inspiring when regarding to how something as simple as typing up funny stories on a blog can gain you a publishing deal and a hefty income. I believe that weblogs can effectively enhance ones writing style in that the author can better critique their craft because of the audience aspect of it.

I currently visit two blogs on a weekly basis. The first is called atlantahatesus.com. It’s an Atlanta based skateboarding site that post videos, pictures, and short articles on local talent. The other is wikedquiver.com which is an east coast based surf website which is very similar in context to atlantahatesus.  On these and most blogs, people can type in their own opinions and ideas in response to post. This allows the author to have free critiquing and editing which assist him in refining his/her writing style.  This is beneficial because it’s difficult for a writer to point out their own short comings. These blogs have a feature called discussion boards which are generally based on one topic and are free game to anyone who wants to add their two cents.  I like the discussion boards because it allows people to exchange ideas on common interest.

The written word is a beautiful thing. Without it, we as humans wouldn’t be able to advance or properly record our colorful history. It’s interesting how the style of writing determines its effectiveness. For instance if two different people wrote a storey on the same subject, chances are, they are going to be very different stories. One writer may be very descriptive whereas the other may be really straight forward. The style of writing determines the outcome of the story. In the blog community, writers can really write from the heart with no restraints. There are no rules, guidelines, or criteria which allow the writer to however he/she feels. I believe this allows for more heartfelt creative writing. For instance Joe the Peacock didn’t have guidelines he had to follow when typing his stories, he just wrote how he wanted to write. He knew which stories were the most successful based on which ones got the most votes. Blogging can really help somebody find their own unique writing style.

I have found this course to be an eye opener to a world in which I was un familiar to. I now know the basic principles and fundamentals to weblogs.  I am now aware that blogging is widespread and is used by even famous musicians. I look forward to fine tuning my blog and giving it my own flavor. I also look forward to having an active audience to read and help me critique my work.  Maybe one day I will be able to get some extra cash like Joe the Peacock did. With blogging, you decide what you want to write about. You don’t need to pay a crew of fancy editors; you have a dedicated audience help you with that. You decide how long, short, narrow, broad, clean, or dirty your writing is. Without rules, it allows you to develop your own personalized style. As long as weblogs have been around, they are still relatively new. I believe they have a long way to go and a lot of new good potential writers to breed.
